The last time viewers saw Kayce Dutton, he was engineering his family’s survival on a small plot of land while selling the Yellowstone ranch to the neighboring Broken Rock tribe to avoid the property landing in the hands of wealthy developers.
Kayce, played by Luke Grimes, carved off just enough land for his family to get a fresh start on the ranch. It was left unclear what would happen next to Dutton in the final episodes of the Kevin Costner/Taylor Sheridan vehicle,Yellowstone.
Now, viewers have a big clue about what happened to Kayce Dutton.
Kayce Dutton Becomes a U.S. Marshal, the Teaser Trailer Reveals
The teaser trailer to the new Yellowstone spinoff Y: Marshals has revealed some details about Kayce Dutton’s future as he recovers from his father John Dutton’s murder. As a side note, we know Kayce’s sister, Beth Dutton, has moved to a new ranch with Rip Wheeler and their adopted son, Carter, because there is a different Yellowstone spinoff planned for their characters.
The teaser trailer for Y: Marshals is very short, but it shows Kayce as a U.S. Marshal on a horse next to a female officer and others, who are armed, are wearing bulletproof vests, and are also on horses.
They look over the Montana landscape.
“I’m changing paths,” Kayce says in the teaser trailer, which shows him chasing two trucks with his horse. “Trying to find a new beginning.”
When Will ‘Y: Marshals’ Be Released?
When can fans expect to see Y: Marshals? It’s not expected until the middle of 2026, but the exact release date is not clear.
According to Entertainment Weekly,the show’s logline describes it as Kayce Dutton joining “an elite unit of U.S. Marshals, combining his skills as a cowboy and Navy SEAL to bring range justice to Montana, where he and his teammates must balance family, duty and the high psychological cost that comes with serving as the last line of defense in the region’s war on violence.”
EW reports that new faces in the show will be Logan Marshall-Green, Arielle Kebbel, Ash Santos, Brett Cullen, and Tatanka Means as fellow marshals. Taylor Sheridan is the executive producer.
Some additional details are also known about the cast. According to Taste of Country, Kayce’s son Tate (Brecken Merrill,) and tribal leaders Thomas Rainwater (Gil Birmingham) and Mo (Mo Brings Plenty) will be appearing in the spinoff.
Whether Monica Dutton, Kayce’s wife, is in the new series is not yet clear, the site reports.
