In Memphis, young people have come together to make a difference in their community. Students from BRIDGES, an organization dedicated to developing leadership skills among youth, recently renovated the Room in the Inn Memphis homeless shelter. This initiative shows how young people can create positive change through commitment and compassion.

The students spent their time painting and renovating the rooms of the home. The goal was to give residents a feeling of hope and new beginnings. Mary Harris, who serves as recruitment coordinator at BRIDGES, emphasized that students not only did physical labor but also prepared hygiene kits for residents. These actions aim to give young people a better understanding of the challenges faced by homeless people.

The experience inspired the young volunteers to continue helping others. Malie Youngblood, a 15-year-old participant, said her efforts make her feel able to have a positive impact on her community. Tyler Warr, 14, expressed his dislike of homelessness and his desire to support those in need.

This initiative is an example of how young people can grow into future leaders through practical experiences and social responsibility. The work of BRIDGES shows that through targeted encouragement and support, young people are able to make meaningful contributions to society while learning valuable lessons about empathy and community.
