Repeated responses from White House officials to an American journalist with the phrase “your mother” sparked widespread controversy about the limits of the relationship between the American administration and the press, amid questions about whether these responses were spontaneous or an intentional strategy to confront embarrassing questions.
The White House has a large liaison office and official spokesmen, whose mission is to provide daily press briefings and respond to journalists’ questions in the conference room or via correspondence, while accredited correspondents, regardless of their political leanings, have the right to ask difficult questions, even to the president himself.
The journalist who asked the provocative questions of President Donald Trump and his administration is SV Date, the White House correspondent for the Huffington Post, who is known for his sharp questions for the president and members of his team, but no one can stop him unless he breaks the law.
Deet recently wrote to White House spokeswoman Carolyn Levitt and asked her who chose Budapest to be the location for the upcoming meeting between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, noting that Budapest was the site of the signing of the 1994 agreement in which Russia pledged not to wage war against Ukraine.
Caroline replied to him by saying, “Your mother chose the place,” and he responded sarcastically, “Are you kidding?” She told him that he was insulting the profession of journalism, and that he was an anti-Trump leftist and annoying, according to what pictures of the conversation were published on social media platforms.
The journalist did not despair, so he wrote to the White House Communications Director asking the same question about who had chosen Budapest to meet with Trump and Putin. The response was one word, “Your mother,” which prompted him to write an article in which he considered the White House’s response inappropriate.
But Caroline Levitt confirmed in a later statement that she said to him “your mother” and cooed him, indicating that he was already annoying and did not deserve respect, in a situation that reflects an unprecedented escalation in the tone of American officials with journalists.

On another occasion, the journalist wrote to the Pentagon to ask why the US Secretary of Defense wore a tie in the colors of the Russian flag during a meeting with the US and Ukrainian presidents, and the answer came: “Because your mother bought it for him.”
Although some may be surprised by a question about the colors of a tie, the question seemed necessary, especially since Russian officials flirted with the colors of the US Secretary of Defense’s tie, and saw it bearing the colors of the Russian flag.
The repetition of the same response, “Your mother,” from different officials in the White House raised widespread questions about whether there was an implicit agreement among all the official spokesmen that if they received any question from this journalist, they would answer in this way.
The Networks program (10/21/2025) monitored some of the tweeters’ comments on this topic, including what Lina wrote:
An appropriate response to a non-media, non-diplomatic, and unimportant question, because it is certainly a presidential decision and an agreement between the two states based on circumstances and circumstances that suit both parties.
While Rima commented:
Caroline was nervous, so she responded to him in this way, and this is evidence that when all humans become nervous and agitated, they come up with strange, strange words.
Akram Suleiman wrote:
Repeating this response over a short period of time makes the politician closer to the popular incubator. It is an intentional act, but it is dangerous behavior because the escalation of hostility with the media was one of the reasons that led to Trump’s defeat against Biden.
As for Julie, she said:
It seems that the journalist is provocative and has a history with the White House or with all Trump officials, because it is not reasonable that all officials respond to him in this way.
On the other hand, the journalist responded to the words of the White House spokeswoman via the
