Former “Home Improvement” star Zachery Ty Bryan and his fiancee Johnnie Faye Cartwright were arrested over the weekend. Cartwright appeared before a judge on Monday, and court records indicate that she pleaded not guilty to several charges.
According to People, Cartwright pleaded not guilty to one count of driving under the influence, two counts of recklessly endangering another person and three counts of reckless driving.
When she was arrested, documents indicated that her charges were slightly different than what she pleaded not guilty to on Monday. Initially, Cartwright was charged with three counts of reckless endangerment and one count of reckless driving, as well as one count of felony attempted assault.
Cartwright, Bryan Each Recently Arrested
The felony assault charge and the reckless endangerment charges were adjusted and reportedly “cleared,” but Cartwright remains in jail. She was appointed a public defender, and the judge appeared to grant her a domestic-violence related no-contact order.
Bryan’s arrest on Saturday indicated that he was charged with assault four, a direct violation of his probation agreement from a previous domestic violence conviction. The actor is being held in custody without bail, and his release date is currently set for Wednesday.
The Lane County (Oregon) Sheriff’s Department detailed the arrest in a social media post, explaining that deputies responded to a report of reckless endangerment. When arriving at the scene, they saw both Bryan and Cartwright, along with three small children.
The post says Bryan exited the vehicle, and that Cartwright attempted to run him over. In the process, she crashed the car – with the children inside – in a ditch. The post says that Bryan was able to avoid being hit by the car, and that no one inside the vehicle was injured.
“Deputies interviewed Bryan and Cartwright. Deputies observed signs both were impaired,” the post from the sheriff’s department says. “Deputies also interviewed witnesses contacted on scene. Per a court order from a prior case, Bryan was not supposed to be in contact with Cartwright.”
Bryan and Cartwright have been engaged since 2021, and they have had several run-ins with the law in their time together. Bryan was arrested for strangling a woman in 2020 who turned out to be Cartwright, and in 2023 he was charged with fourth-degree felony assault constituting domestic violence.
Bryan’s Previous Legal Issues
Bryan was arrested twice and charged with DUI in 2024, and earlier this year he was charged with second-degree domestic violence stemming from an incident that took place in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
Despite Bryan’s legal issues, Cartwright has remained firm in her stance of wanting “what’s best for the father of my children,” as she told Us Weekly back in 2023.
“Trauma can bring struggles in many shapes and forms. It’s a horrible situation that’s going to be spun in so many ways. I’ve learned firsthand the truth will never align with what’s been put out there,” she said at the time.
